The Garden
“The Garden (Take a Moment)” is an original composition by Irish songwriter Dave McGilton, written as a deeply personal tribute to the 343 fallen FDNY members of 9/11 and the sanctuary of the Ringfinnan Garden of Remembrance itself.
I first became aware of the Garden when I visited it with Danny Manning Retired FDNY Firefighter in May of 2010- I found it to be a very moving experience and not easily forgotten-it was obvious that the Garden’s Founder and Creator,Retired Nurse Kathleen Murphy had the deepest respect and reverence for the Fallen 343 FDNY Firefighters and wanted to remember them in a positive and uplifting way.
Kathleen has succeeded hugely in doing just that by creating a living Memorial to the 343 and it’s natural power and serene presence is a testament to the memory of both Kathleen and the brave heroic men she wanted remembered.
On this 25th Anniversary of 9/11 I wanted to pay tribute to Kathleen’s vision and to the people of Kinsale for maintaining this beautiful and deeply moving Memorial and I hope that this song in some way helps to acknowledge the original vision and the work done since to make the Garden what it is today ,a fitting living Tribute to the Fallen.
