A poignant focal point of the 2025 commemoration was the official unveiling of a new stone monument. Gifted by the FDNY Carolina Retirees Association, the monument bears a piece of steel recovered from the World Trade Centre towers. Ambassador Walsh, assisted by retired FDNY personnel in full dress uniform, revealed the sculpture to the gathered crowd—creating a permanent, physical connection between Ground Zero and the Kinsale memorial.
The ceremony was marked by moments of quiet dignity and shared mourning. A vibrant red, white, and blue floral wreath, bearing the solemn promise “Never Forget 343”, was laid at the garden’s central cross. Amidst the gentle September rain, prayers were read and formal salutes were rendered by visiting veterans.
